Change in Grant Request Process

The Herndon Foundation is changing its grant request process, beginning in 2026.  We ask for patience on the part of prospective grantees as we make the transition.

As we have gotten to know the many organizations that are aligned with our funding priorities, we believe that, for them, there is no need to spend time on a grant request. We will send funding to these organizations as part of our quarterly grantmaking. We only ask to be informed if our funds are used for special projects or if the recipient undergoes a strategic shift in purpose.

Starting in 2026, there will NOT be an opportunity for an organization that has already received funding from the Herndon Foundation in the current year to apply for a grant during the open grant request cycle.

We recognize that some confusion may arise since, at the time the grant request cycle opens, we may not have finished sending grant funding to all organizations that do not need to apply.  In our conversations with organizations, we will try to indicate our expectations regarding funding and the open grant request process.

If there is any doubt, please email info@herndonfdn.org or leave a message at 804-560-4119 and we will indicate whether your organization should apply or not.
